SUMMARY:The Beacon Salon Series - Barbara Bergren
DESCRIPTION:Join author Barbara Bergren for a presentation that will chronicle the story of Bergren’s father\, Martin Weigen\, before\, during\, and after WWII\, highlighting the reunion between him and the former lieutenant John Withers who was in charge of a segregated African-American army unit during the war. Through acts of kindness\, Weigen finds his way to recovery after his liberation from the Dachau concentration camp. A true story of the worst and best of humanity — where two men are touched by discrimination and the horror of war and experience resilience\, hope\, and inspiration.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED - March 15th - The Florida Holocaust Museum
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The FHM’s Generations After – A Group for Children and Adult Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors and Holocaust Refugees. \nOut of an abundance of caution regarding the situation with Covid-19\, and after conversations with the Florida Holocaust Museum\, we have decided to postpone the Author Presentation scheduled for Sunday\, March 15th.  As this would have been the first Author Event following the launch of Witness For My Father\, we do this with a heavy heart\, but with all good intentions to help the community minimize the spread of the Corona Virus.  \nPlease follow me here\, sign up for my email list\, or follow me on Facebook to receive updates regarding a rescheduled date\, or any future events. \n-Barbara \nBarbara Bergren is a lecturer and Holocaust educator who visits schools\, religious organizations\, and community groups speaking about her father’s experience during and after World War II. Witness For My Father is the story of how an African-American troop broke the rules and nurtured her father to health after his liberation from Dachau. \nBergren’s father\, Martin Weigen was eleven when the Nazis invaded his hometown of Starachowice\, Poland. He survived the death march from Auschwitz\, imprisonment at Buchenwald\, and the deaths of his family before his liberation at Dachau and the decision that changed the course of his life. He never spoke of it. Fifty years later\, a surprise telephone call opened the door to Martin’s past. \nThe new release Witness for My Father will be available for purchase and signing by Bergren. \nFREE to attend. RSVPs are required via https://bookwhen.com/floridaholocaustmuseum/e/ev-scs8-20200315140000 \n
